RESEARCH UPDATE NCS is partnering with RMIT University’s Centre for Sustainable Organisations and Work to conduct the six month pilot project, which aims to assist local industry, unions and government in understanding the skills profile within the power industry and the future demand for these skills in a low carbon economy. Latrobe Valley Power Industry Workers are needed for this vital research. Gippsland Trades & Labour Council Workshops Gippsland Trades and Labour Council Workshops are an ingegral part of the Just Transition process. Idustry sectors, including Energy, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Tourism and Forestry are being brought together in a series of workshops that will be a precursor to the Just Transition Skills, Regional Innovation and Opportunities Exhibition and Conference to be held over two days in November 2011. The Gippsland Apprenticeship Research
Project (GARP) arose from growing concern among a range of stakeholders
(e.g. employers, trade unions, employment agencies, educators, group training
providers, etc.) in the Gippsland region about apprentices/trainees and
training schemes. The project reference group and funding sources included
Monash University, Gippsland Local Government Network, Regional Development
Victoria and Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN .Stakeholder concerns included issues surrounding * declining retention rates * the quality of apprenticeships and traineeships * employers’ motivation in taking on apprentices * apprentice/trainee motivations for undertaking training. |
